No. Barwick in Elmet and Scholes Parish Council, Councillors are unpaid and freely give up their time in the service of their community. The only paid role is that of the Clerk to the Council (who works on a part-time basis). All payments and expenses are recorded in the Council’s accounts which are available publicly.

Parish Councillors may be directly affiliated to a political party, however many are not. When voting for a potential candidate you should choose someone who you believe will best represent the interests of the local community. 

You will need to meet a number of eligibility requirements. Assuming you meet these, you will need to be nominated for the position and stand for election (or be co-opted by the current Councillors). You can find out more at the electoral commission website. 

Parish and Town Councils are the first tier of local government and are the closest to the community they serve. You can find out more on the Leeds City Council and .gov websites.
